Dr Michael Riese, PhD

Single & 2-Phase Heat Transfer, Project Management, Research & Development
Dr Riese is the managing director of Nordkraft and has over 20 years professional experience as a specialist engineer for single and 2-phase heat transfer, experimental fluid dynamics and general research and product development amongst others.
Michael started his work career as a machinist fitter in Germany before moving to Wales, where he earned 1st Class Honours in Mechanical Engineer from The University of Wales, Cardiff. In 2002, he moved to Adelaide in South Australia to commence his PhD in experimental fluid dynamics at the University of Adelaide. Since then Michael worked as a consultant and design engineer, construction manager, business development professional and in his last role before founding Nordkraft spent 12 years at industrial refrigeration company Cold Logic, where he set up and managed the company’s defence industry business.

Kylie Riese, BA

HSEQ Creation, Management & Auditing, Business Improvement

With more than 25 years of experience across local government, state government, and private industry, Kylie is Nordkraft’s Principal Consultant and a specialist in internal audit, governance, and organisational assurance. She brings extensive expertise in developing, implementing, and strengthening HSEQ frameworks that support compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement.
Kylie has a proven track record in establishing HSEQ management systems that meet ISO requirements, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. She is highly experienced in guiding organisations through the full accreditation lifecycle—system design, documentation, readiness assessment, external audit preparation, and ongoing maintenance—to ensure certification is both achieved and sustained.
A skilled technical writer, Kylie excels in developing policies and procedures that meet legislative obligations and organisational requirements. She is known for translating complex regulatory and statutory expectations into clear, practical, and implementable documentation that enhances consistency, strengthens internal controls, and supports operational excellence.
In her internal audit work, Kylie applies analytical rigour and evidence‑based assessment to evaluate control effectiveness, identify systemic risks, and deliver actionable recommendations. Her collaborative approach and strong communication skills enable her to build trust with stakeholders and drive meaningful organisational improvement.
